I've been listening to more Country lately. There are some great bass lines, lyrics. Some just plain old borring stuff too tho. Never hurts to broaden the horizons.

Yeah, plenty of horrendous stuff but some real gems out there too.
You can really hear a lot of rock influences now in modern country.
I've noticed a lot of rock being covered by country bands, and not all Hee-Haw style either.

Too bad so many people only know the crappy songs by bands like B&R.
They have some cool stuff that just doesn't make the radio/jukebox circuit.
Lots of new country bands like that. They get attention for the junk and everyone ignores the cool stuff.

I expect that'll change eventually too.

Ya, I hear ya, I can't even listen to country anymore, it's all rock!!  Now don't get me wrong, I love rock!!!!, but don't call yourself a "country Band" and play Big and Rich cuss A band playing "so called" Country music, isn't really a country band just because they have a steel guitar and a fiddle on stage, you can never hear them anyway.
What happen to bands that played Dwight Yoakam/ Johnny Cash type stuff??  I sware some days i'd like to get a good Honky Tonk beer drinking band together and have some fun playing GOOD country tunes!!! rawk  OK, I'm off my soapbox now Grin

I was a "hard-core" old country fan & would not even give new country a chance.... untill now. after starting this Hillbilly Rockstar project i have been learning songs i have never heard before, and the guitar work is not easy by any stretch !! gitaar
having fun playing the classics i grew up on, Jonny, Hank, Waylon ect ect. Learning these country riffs has been interesting !!  Grin

That's because more than a few of the 80s shredders are older now and moved to NashVegas and are now the big studio guys there.
They just swapped their Jacksons for Telecasters.
Interesting to see how many country players are now using fast playing guitars though even now and even using high gain amps and tons of digital effects.
They're still Krokus fans at heart.  laff

Amen, Johnny.   I was listening to some early Jimmy Buffet (A1A, Son of a Son of a Sailor albums) and most of what he recorded in the early 70's is now passing for 'country'.   The local station in Tommyhawk, though a wonderful, locally owned, community minded radio station, plays a mix of rock, oldies and country.  And the country is abysmally baaaaaaaaaaaad.   If I hear one more tearjerker about Iraq, or one more song celebrating being an "all american" person who's apogee in life was senior year in high school, I'll puke.

I recommend fans of 'real country', the old-school stuff, to visit www.wxpr.org and listen to their weekly old-time country show at 7 pm - 10 pm on Saturday night.   Their bluegrass show from Noon to 4pm on Saturday is pretty good too.  You can listen online.   For free.  Really.   And, if you're lucky enough to be in 'God's Country', (anywhere North of Stevens Point) you can listen at either 91.7 (Rhinelander) or 91.9 FM (Wausau).  There's even a translator in Ironwood, MI but I can't recall the frequency.

Johnny's in seventh heaven now that he has a new XM Radio in his work truck. He can listen to the kind of country music he loves now any time he wants to. I'm not much up on what the stations are, but there's some REALLY good stuff on there, and if you DO accidentally run across a Toby Keith tribute to soldiers or an "I love my kids" song, there's plenty of other channels to pick from. I know there's one station on there that plays stuff you will NEVER hear on regular radio, he's told me but I don't remember what the channel is called.....  dontknow

A word of advice to anyone opening for D.A.C., avoid him and his son like the plague if you can.
As soon as your set is over, pack up all your instruments & remove them from the building A.S.A.P.  Angry
