Hey Y’all,

Jerry Dabson of Janesville set up his PA system this past Friday night. Oct 3rd - for a wedding reception his band was playing on Sat night - and sometime between then and Sat morning...somebody broke into the hall and stole his entire PA!  They also got all the food and booze that was there for the next day.   Angry UNBELIEVABLE!  The hall is in a rural area outside of Janesville, so they’re aren't many clues at all.  The band was able to use a borrowed PA for the wedding, so that went off really well, considering the circumstances.

For those of you who don't know Jerry, he has been an integral part of the music community around Janesville, Rock County and Southern Wisconsin for more than 50 years.  He's played with literally hundreds - maybe close to a thousand musicians - in his career.  He is truly one of the stalwarts and pioneers of that scene...and one of the best Country singers I've ever worked with.  Moreover, he's a very good friend of mine.  He's one of those older musicians that you just want to hang out with and glean something from before they're gone.  Even though he is 67 years old, he still plays several gigs a month, including hosting a weekly Jam session at Hammy's in Janesville each Saturday afternoon.

We are having a quickly put-together benefit for Jerry to help him recoup, at least some of, the costs of a replacement PA.  Obviously, as we all know, the stuff he had stolen was worth several thousand dollars, and had taken years to accumulate.  Thank God that he didn't leave his vintage Gibson J45 and Fender Twin there!  Jerry is retired now - and on a limited income - so just bouncing down to Voights or Ward Brodt (or musiciansfriend.com for that matter) is not an option.

The benefit will be Sat, Oct 18th from 2pm until whenever it's over.  It will be at Hammy's Roadside Bar at 2131 Center Ave, in Janesville.  It will be built around the Open Jam that Jerry hosts there every Sat anyway.  His normal core band will be there, of course.  Plus, any and all musicians are welcome to come sit in for a few or a bunch.  There is always a wide variety of music at this jam, so whatever your style, you should fit in fine.  Since it is scheduled for the afternoon, we're hoping to be able to get some musicians in before they have to get on back out there for their own gigs that night.

We will have donations, food, raffles, etc.  Jerry knows tons of people/musicians in the area, so we're hoping - with enough word getting out - to have a great turnout.  Anything we can do to help him offset what these cretins have done to him will be greatly appreciated.  Just the show of support by your attendance will have a huge impact on him.  As you can imagine, he's really been affected by this.  He's trying to keep his chin up - and even joking a little about it - but I know him well, and I can tell how much this has just kicked him in the gut.

Anyway, just wanted to let y'all in on what happened and what we've got planned.  Hope to see as many of you as possible at Hammy's on Sat, Oct 18th.

If you need any more info, I can be reached at gary@mcadams.com or 847.757.3727

Thanks!

I think Jerry's a classic and would love to go but I'm already doing a benefit that day so I can't attend.  Angry The obvious question is - How come the hall's insurance company isn't covering the loss?

Good question Curtis.  I'm not sure why; but, from what I understand, there will be no insurance check forthcoming.

I'm not an expert-just a guy who happens to pick up a lot of (sometimes) usless information along life's open road, but I think the hall's liability towards Jerry's gear would only kick in if it had been stolen while he was there Saturday. I think if you leave sometthing overnight as a convenience, you're doing so at your own risk.

As stated at the beginning, this is not an expert opinion. I could very well be wrong, and if there's someone here who knows and corrects me, I won't be offended.

Fraud: Telling the American people that Saddam has a bunch of WMDs and we need to take him out. Oh - by the way - 911, 911, 911. Huh?

Dudes ... way, way, WAY off topic.  Tongue

Let's not let anything turn the topic away from a long time local muso & overall good guy and his getting burned by some thieving leaker.

Let's all save the politics for another thread.

Well said J.J.  This thread's sure been hijacked. Sad

It's not about Hitler videos - although that is offensive on multiple levels, including musically - and it's not about fraud and it's not about mistaken assumptions of WMDs -although that's troubling on some levels also - it's actually about the Jerry Dabson Benefit we're having on Sat, Oct 18 at Hammy's Roadside Bar in Janesville.

It's coming together nicely.  Hopefully, we'll have a great turnout and a great response.

Thanks to the people who have already committed time, resources or services.
